The Sub-Sieve Sizer operates on the air-permeability principle for measuring the average particle size of powders. The principle is based upon the fact that particles in the path of a regulated airflow will affect that airflow in relation to their size. More specifically, however, the principle finds its basis in the fact that a current of air flows more readily through a bed of coarse powder than through an otherwise equal bed of fine powder that is eaual in shape of bed, apparent volume, and percentage of voids; but by reason of difference in general coarseness of material (differing in average pore diameter and in total interstitial surface), measurements of average particle sizes are obtained.

After switching on the power of average particle size meter, the air pump starts to work. The compressed air passes through a filter to remove dust and impurities, and then stabilized by a voltage stabilizer, passes through a dryer composed of color-changing silica gel, the molecules in the compressed air are removed, and then the compressed air enters the sample tube. After passing through the measured powder, part of the compressed gas enters the u-shaped pressure gauge. The average particle size of the measured powder can be read on the HMK-22 Average Particle Size Meter reading board according to the water level height of the manometer. Excess gas is discharged through the high value needle valve.
