♦ ASTM B417 Non-Free-Flowing Metal Powders Apparent Density Carney Funnel is manufactured according to international standard ASTM B417 Standard Test Method for Apparent Density of Non-Free-Flowing Metal Powders Using the Carney Funnel.
♦ A Carney funnel has orifice of 5 mm and is specially designed for measuring the apparent density of non-free flowing metal powders.
♦ Here we say non-free-flowing is a relative concept, it is relative to the hall flowmeter funnel, cause if a metallic powder can flow freely through an orifice of 2.5 funnle (Hall Flowmeter Funnel) we need’t use a Carney funnel.
♦ But a powder that can not pass through a Carney funnel we also call it non-free-flowing powder relative to a Scott Volumeter which is not restricted by the orifice since a scott volumeter has completely different structure. These three apparatus are most widely used Bulk Density Testers.
♦ In above picutre, the left is a hall flowmeter funnel and right is a Carney funnel manufactured by AimSizer.

What does ASTM B417 covers?
-This test method covers a procedure for determining the apparent density of non-free-flowing metal powders. It is designed for those metal powders that do not freely flow through the Hall flowmeter funnel.
